With a thrill of voyeuristic anticipation she reached for the door to Suzi and Myriah’s room, more than half hoping to catch her lovely roomies in flagrante delicto.
To her surprise, the door was locked.
Kimbra paused. They rarely locked the doors at home even with Kimbra’s manufactured habit of not knocking, which had bolstered her hope that one day, if she could work up the courage, her overtures might not be unwelcome. Biting her lip, she tapped on the door.
“Hey guys, I’m back.”
There was a muffled rustling sound. “We’ll be a few minutes,” Myriah called. “Why don’t you hop in the shower?”
“Sure.”
Kimbra retreated to her sumptuous bathroom, unable to stop the flood of images that raced through her mind. Glimpses stolen from other times when she’d walked in on the two women, sounds that crept through the walls at night. Kimbra felt her skin flush with heat, and turned the shower on cold...
The first time had been an accident. She’d thought the girls were out, and had been looking for one of the CDs Myriah liked to borrow from the stack in the living room. Kimbra had thought her face would light on fire when she walked in on the two...They were so happy, that was the worst of it. Kimbra had always thought of herself as straight, or at least she had until then and the hot nights that followed, where she could hardly close her eyes without her imagination providing a different ending to that encounter. She loved Suzi and Myriah like sisters, and maybe more – but how did you intrude on people who were so obviously well matched and content with each other? Especially when your own feelings were so frighteningly, maddeningly new?
